The Gospel of Matthew - The Sign of Jonah | Matthew Chapter 12: 38 - 42

376 views Dec 11, 2024

In Matthew 12:38-42, the Pharisees and teachers of the law ask Jesus for a sign. He rebukes them, calling their generation wicked and adulterous for seeking a sign, and says the only sign they will receive is the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and nights, Jesus will be in the heart of the earth. He condemns their lack of repentance, comparing them unfavorably to the people of Nineveh and the Queen of the South, who recognized God’s truth with far less evidence.
